Killer Duplicity: A Toni Jasper Murder Mystery – Synopsis
A former reporter, Toni Jasper is now challenged with a new career as an advertising/public relations agency owner. New ad clients, though, don’t dissuade her from occasional snooping into mysteries that crop up in the laid-back City of Seminole on Florida’s balmy West Coast. With the support of her ally and romantic interest, Mike Milner, Toni assumed life would be smooth sailing.
Her latest agency client acquisition is a three-person partnership of plastic surgeons. When the controlling partner Dr. Ryan Wilde is found dead, the entire community is shocked, most of all Toni. Healthy and ambitious, the forty-three-year-old doctor shouldn’t have met his demise in a one-car crash. What really happened? Ryan’s wife who was ten years his junior shouldn’t want him dead. Maybe one of his partners – the bearded playboy, Dr. Morgan Gherhart, or the sophisticated, esteemed Dr. Olivia Fitzgerald – found a need to do him in despite the fact that the practice was successful and on a solid expansion path.
At first, Dr. Ryan’s fast and fatal crash is deemed an accident. After an insurance investigation, though, the business finances show subtle irregularities. Perhaps someone did have a reason to get rid of the good doctor. To make matters worse, Ryan’s twenty-one-year-old estranged son shows up, without notice. What’s the true reason that he’s suddenly interested in his father—or his estate?
Despite these unknowns as well as her own suspicions, Toni wants to save the practice as a lucrative client for her firm. True to her nature, she jumps in to help the remaining partners maintain their business so they can move forward as well as contribute to her own agency’s revenue.
Will the doctors’ practice survive the growing legal entanglements? Worst of all, will Toni’s snooping reveal a duplicitous scheme? And will she, herself, be doomed when she uncovers the ugly truth beneath the practice’s plastic façade?
