Book Review
By M.C. Simon
There are several countries on this planet which I love the most. Not only do I have a lot of friends there, but my feet have also touched their lands because there exists a hidden connection between my soul and those places. One of these lands is called Israel.
This being said you don’t need to hear any more about the many details of excitement that I felt when I found out about a book written by a writer who served in the Israeli army.
I picked “Accidental Soldier” to read, and my heart melted while finding more about the author’s path. The book is a memoir, and Dorit Sasson made the right decision choosing to write it. People need to know; people need to learn more about real life.
I will not talk about the book’s synopsis because it is easy for you to read it bellow. But I will tell you what feelings were born inside me while reading it.
First, the author succeeded to bring hope inside my heart. Such as I feel whenever I hear or read stories about people who, no matter how many obstacles they meet in their lives, in the end, they become winners. The same way I felt about the book’s main character, an American Jewish teenager who discovered what courage means; who gained strength and found what independence is, due to her decisions and actions.
Second, my souls started to sing while my eyes were reading about the fascinating land called Israel. My curiosity was also satisfied, finally finding details about the mysterious world of one of the most known armies on our globe. And again my heart melted when, in this new world, I met the author’s struggle to conquer her fears and weaknesses, while facing lots of challenges.
Third, my hunger for reading a good book was completely satisfied. Dorit Sasson succeeded to transform her memoirs into a very engaging and profound adventure. Her beautiful writing style takes the reader into a new and insightful world; a world of sacrifices, courage, obstacles, comfort zones, doubts, self-awareness, decisions, spiritual gains and transformations… and so much more.
The Accidental Soldier left a smile in my eyes; the kind of smile that you have after a great meal. Yes, I can state for now… Dorit Sasson fed my soul with her Accidental Soldier.
If you need to feed your soul too, grab this book and open its covers. When you’re done reading it, let me take a look at your eyes.
Five Star from MC Simon, The Writers Pay It Forward’s reviewer.
