Standing On A Whale

“My life had been in danger before, so I was used to it. I stood perfectly still and waiting”. These are the first words of the prologue. Also, at the same time, this was the first lure the author threw to me. I stood perfectly still waiting to see where this book would lead me.

When the first chapter started, I met Lance, a sad and apathetic character, a doctor who was just planning his suicidal moment. I am a very optimistic person, and I love to observe the worlds and lives of others. Therefore, I found myself desiring to know more about such a personage and about the way in which the author succeeds to paint him.

However, this psychological thriller succeeded to totally conquer my mind at the moment when the author described someone’s eyes. I am a very sensitive person, especially when it is about someone’s eyes.

I had a deep moment when I suddenly stopped thinking that I was reading a simple book, when the author said, “Those bottomless pools of light contained a singular twinkle that was uncommon and rare”. This click completely immersed me into the book’s world. Confidently I let myself into the author’s hands, and I was not sorry for this decision, not even for one moment.

‘”Enlightenment is a happening not something to be purchased or given.”

“What if someone asks for it?”

“It is not for asking” he replied.

“Why not?”

“Asking gets in the way.”‘

The talks between Lance and Hadden, a mysterious enlightened personage, a contemporaneous mystic, almost blew my logical mind. The author expresses so much through these talks, that she practically offers the reader an abundance of wisdom. What is exposed through words is a vast theory about the meaning of life, but… what is hidden in unspoken words almost yells behind the lines, giving you chills.

“Enlightenment can be caught, Lance, but it can never be taught”, says Hadden and it was almost as if he was speaking about the book. “Standing On A Whale” is the type of a book that makes you wonder about the author, about her life and her heart; exactly my kind of book. I even dare comparing Bev Tiernan’s book with “Conversations with God” by Neale Donald Walsch, another great book that gave me chills while reading it some time ago.

Standing On A Whale” is not the kind of thriller that will raise your adrenaline level. Rather it is the kind that… if you must choose only one single book to read for the rest of your life… you will choose it; because it opens in front of your eyes perceptions about a world that will make you meditate and wonder.

The author offers the reader a book about questions and answers, life and death, action and reaction, a book that has such interesting characters that you can write a separate book about each one.

I recommend this book to anyone who is on their spiritual path trying to decipher it. No matter if you just started or you’ve been on this path for a long time already, I am sure you will find something for you in “Standing On A Whale“.

If you want to read a book that makes you think and wonder, a book filled with questions that will force you to find your own answers, if you want to read a guide for creating a new and better world, pick this one.

“The god in your imagination is the god you are ready for,” writes the creator of this book, while she makes me wonder… “Who are you, Bev Tiernan?”
